About the Recipe
Ingredients
To serve:
4 folded Burger flatbreads
4 slices of Swiss cheese
4 sliced gherkins
4 tbsp Burger Sauce
Handful of Salad
For the smashed burgers
400g Minced beef
½ onion, finely sliced
½ tsp sea salt
½ tsp cracked black pepper
Pinch of grated nutmeg
Vegetable oil for frying
Preparation
1. Season your beef mince with salt, pepper and a little nutmeg. Then form into four equal sized balls. Keep in the fridge until you are ready to cook them.
2. Preheat a large non-stick frying pan or cast iron skillet and drizzle it with a little oil. Press the ball of seasoned beef onto the hot pan using another pan to smash it down flat. Press hard to flatten and increase the surface area for a good seared, brown texture to the burger patty.
3. Press onions into the top of the burger and then after 3-4 mins flip it over. Top with a sliced gherkin and cover with cheese and cook for a final 2-3 mins.
4. Lightly toast your flatbread to warm and add a handful of salad, the smashed burger and some burger sauce. Garnish with sliced tomato or onions.
